NEHAWU Mourns The Passing Of SASCO Deputy President, Comrade Buyile Matiwane

Tuesday July 12, 2022

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] has learnt with shock and sadness of the untimely passing of South African Students Congress [SASCO] Deputy President, Comrade Buyile Matiwane.

The national union extends its condolences to his family, SASCO, friends and the Mass Democratic Movement (MDM) structures. We wish his family strength during this dark hour.

Comrade Matiwane dedicated his time fighting for the transformation of post schooling and education system. He will be remembered for his love and deep appreciation for his organisation, SASCO, as a critical role player in the broader transformation of South Africa and the post-schooling and training sector in particular and also advancing student’s struggles.

As NEHAWU, in honouring the memory of Comrade Matiwane, we will continue to work closely with SASCO in taking forward the Student-Worker Alliance with an objective of transforming the post schooling and education system.

NEHAWU dips its banner in honour of Comrade Matiwane, a dedicated activist of our movement and an unassuming leader of students, who served the student and the youth movement with diligence and selflessness. We are deeply saddened by his death and want to take this opportunity to convey our heartfelt condolences to his family, SASCO and friends.

END
